THAT'S LONG

Doctor quote of the day:

"He had a sigmoid colectomy on that hospital admission, which lasted from April 28, 2003 to June 24, 2003."

To me, because of the sentence structure, it seems as though the surgery lasted 58 days. I put that extra comma in there to try and make the second phrase adjectival to the admission and not the colectomy, but I'm not sure it worked.

That's still a long frickin' time to be in the hospital for anything.

If any of my readers are MDs, DOs, or other report-creating medical professionals, PLEASE PLEASE be aware of English grammar and self-edit for clarity. Otherwise, typing your reports gets incredibly annoying.

If I were dictating, I would have said the following:

"During his hospital admission from April 28, 2003 to June 24, 2003, the patient had a sigmoid colectomy."

There, it's nice and clear.

BRIEFLY

You see this swath of blog redecoration? It's the meme that's sweeping the nation (as memes are wont to do).

Books: I have now started reading Michael Moorcock, also at the behest of my Pooka, "Corum: Coming of Chaos." Straight up fantasy like I haven't read since I don't know when.

Games: We had been playing My Life With Master, and previous to that we'd continued on in Shadow World with Hero Wars rules. Now, we're gearing up for Hero Quest in Glorantha. If you're an RPG geek, you've probably been awaiting the release of the latest edition of Hero Quest. Josh was. He was slobbering over it like a 14-year-old boy over a Penthouse. You think I'm exaggerating? You don't know him well enough then.

Kid: Mo has started first grade. Just like her first day of kindergarten, her first day of first grade was "fine."

Planets: Mars is very very close. It's so big and bright, it's kind of scary. It hasn't been this near Earth in 60,000 years. If you're sensitive to planetary influences, you may be feeling a bit tetchy right about now, feeling like you need to fight something. Go outside and play Holst's "Mars, Bringer of War" and hit stuff and break stuff. It helps.
