YOU CAN'T ESCAPE

Okay, so on my other page I've made a point about trying to go organic and vegetarian/vegan out of disgust for factory farms, treatment of employees at processing facilities and in the fields, and for general health reasons.

But then I found this - a list of organic and soy product producers who have been, pardon me, eaten up by big business.

This is bothersome. Very bothersome. At this rate, my conscience wouldn't allow me to eat anything except eggs from free range chickens on a small local farm (which is owned by a hugely overpopulating Baptist family with 10 children, all girls) and Earthbound Farms produce.

JUMP TO CONCLUSION
This all brings me back to my original premise, developed when I was but a lass of 12 or so - people are a big problem, and we can't do anything without fucking it up. You take something as ostensibly ancient and respectable and necessary as farming and you make it big business and it all goes to hell. Geez.

ALTHOUGH
I find propaganda from both sides to be tiresome. I find the paranoia of one side and the brainwash of the other side annoying and distancing. I absolutely hate marketing ploys and advertising of all kinds. I find the question "But what can I do?" on constant replay in my head. Can we escape agribusiness, or business altogether? I wish, but probably not. Can we go back to agrarian egalitarian communities? No. So what then? What indeed?

BUT
I finally found the link to my favorite health food store - Nokomis in East Troy. They sell a lot of other stuff besides bread - local honey, free range meats, homeopathic stuff, vitamins, bulk spices and grains and beans and it's the only place I've found around here that sells sea vegetables. Good for them.
