KILLING THE APOCALYPSE

I've been reading The Televisionary Oracle by Rob Brezny - the Free Will Astrology guy.

I initially picked this book at random out of a milk crate sitting at our new house - all of my other books were prematurely packed and moved. It was a signed copy, but the autograph was made out to "Martha." Hm.

I found a phone number and some driving directions tucked into the pages. I showed them to Josh, and he claims to have never seen them in his life. He did get this book secondhand, so that is plausible.

Now for my opinion of the text: It's very very interesting. Very. It makes me glad I found Josh after all this time. It makes me glad I wasn't raised Christian. It makes me glad I'm a woman. It makes me glad I am who I am overall.

I won't try to describe it, because it's weird. When you click on the link, you can read parts of it yourself. I won't bother warning you about the sexual content, because, well, I just did.

I like weird.

I see on the page to which I link, Tom Robbins has an opinion on this book. That's a good sign. I rather respect his opinions on literature.

I will say that Brezny's prose style is convoluted and digressive, but I like digressive. Class, can you think of any other famous authors whose prose style could be called convoluted and digressive? It might also be called heavy-handed on the adjectives and adverbs. But again, occasionally I am partial to excess. When I'm not in the mood for excess, I'll read haiku or Mark Bittman's cookbooks.

So yes, I enjoyed it. I'll probably reread it a bunch of times. I might start quoting it the way I quote Robbins. I might start now: "Foreplay isn't a means to an end -- it's a way of life."

That's something I've only believed for the last 22 months of my life, but oh how very very true indeed.

WABBIT SEASON, DUCK SEASON, MOREL SEASON

During my jog at Lapham Peak this morning, I found a patch of morels. Ooh. One of my favorite fungi.

Neither Josh nor Mo is a fungus fancier, though, so I pointed the patch out to a lady with a collecting bag and let her have the lot.

Had I harvested them, I'd have sauteed them in butter and a little salt, and had them over rice.

If you like mushrooms, and you get the chance, try morels. They're only in season about now, so get them before the hobbits do.

BREAKING THROUGH THE WALL

I am proud of myself. Today, I went way past my usual production on my job, in no more time than usual, and got a whopping 1668 lines. That's what I used to get on my good accounts. I hope it wasn't a fluke. We could use the extra money right about now. I get 8.4 cents per line, so you do the math. I wish every day could be like this as regards my earning capacity.

I think I know what was different. I didn't screw around online quite so much. I worked out in the afternoon instead of in the morning. I actually managed to concentrate and motivate myself. I don't know how I did that, but if I can keep doing it, soon Josh and I will be rolling in big piles of money.

Er, well. Maybe not that last one. But still, it's a nice image.
